Sydney's nightlife is always buzzing, and the identical twin DJ duo Seeing Double is at the heart of this excitement. Jake and Neil, better known as Seeing Double, have become regulars at some of Sydney's hottest events, including ivy Thursdays, Argyle Fridays, and Homemade Saturdays, thanks to their high-energy performances and seamless synergy. Here’s an in-depth look into what makes this duo unique and why you should catch their electrifying sets.
As identical twins, how does your dynamic influence your DJ performances and the energy you bring to events like ivy Thursdays and Argyle Fridays?
"Feeding off each other’s energy is definitely one massive point that we both agree on. One could be mixing in tracks while knowing when the other is about to go out on stage and hype up the crowd! This works great when one of us fades out the volume for an amazing sing-along moment. This is one advantage of being pretty much a clone of each other."
Their seamless coordination and mutual understanding amplify the energy in their performances, creating a vibrant and cohesive experience for their audience.
Can you share a memorable moment from one of your sets?
"Haha, well, this one time we were both actually really enjoying this set. The crowd was amazing, and the night was crisp with a summer breeze. Jake had to go to the bathroom real quick and mentioned he would be back in 2 mins. He walked off stage with his headphones still on and as he did this, pulled the whole mixer with him that his headphones were plugged into. The mixer unplugged, stopping all the music and breaking his headphone cord in the process!"
Despite the mishap, their ability to laugh it off and keep the crowd entertained highlights their professionalism and dedication to delivering a great show.
How do you balance your individual roles and responsibilities in the duo?
"We both really enjoy what we do. Sharing and pushing each other with responsibility comes naturally to us. Jake has two kids, both at a very young age, so Neil takes care of the social media aspect most of the time when Jake’s on dad duties, teaching his boys to do the Macarena."
Their strong partnership and ability to balance responsibilities ensure that their brand continues to grow, both on stage and online.
You've gained a significant following on TikTok. How has your online presence influenced your live performances?
"We have noticed online apps like TikTok are changing the music you hear and also what we play. A new song could pop up after going viral and be hot for one week, and then we will never actually play that track again! We also notice audiences don’t really want to hear a whole song. For example, we could play one track for only about 20-30 seconds then bam, into the next!"
Their adaptability to current trends and fan preferences keeps their sets fresh and exciting, ensuring that each performance is unique.
What future goals or projects are you excited about?
"We are forever working behind the scenes to take our Seeing Double project to new heights. We have a fair few collaborations on the way with some overseas artists that we are really looking forward to. We also both really love country music and crossing over our passion with dance, and this is something we want to create. One goal, in particular, we have is to create our new podcast being filmed and YouTube-ready soon!"
Their forward-thinking approach and diverse musical interests promise exciting developments in their career.
